OBITUARIES

Vicki Elizabeth Babas was born into this world on June 12, 1963 at Ft. Carson, CO. Our Lord called her back to his side on August 30, 2008 from Colorado Springs, CO. Vicki was a loving and caring mother who took care of her four wonderful children. Vicki was a lifelong resident of Colorado and lived in Fountain for the last 20 years.

Vicki loved her family more than anything in this world and her family loved her dearly. She will be greatly missed. Vicki is survived by her four kids, Randy, Nichole, CJ all of Fountain and Christopher (Jessica) of Ft. Campbell, KY who is currently serving in Iraq with the US Army and granddaughter, Alicia.

Also survived by her parents, Bobo and Vicky Vialpando; brothers, Scott (Tami) and David all of Fountain; father, Ellsworth Marcy of Fountain; sisters, Valerie (Paul) Ritz of Arizona and Michelle Class of Florida; brother, Alan Van Cleave of California; numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.

There will be a viewing on Friday, September 5th from 3-4pm followed by the funeral service at 4pm. Both services to be held at Dove-Witt Fountain Valley Chapel, 6630 S. Hwy 85/87, Fountain, CO.


Katie Arlene Webb Ihnfeldt, 86, passed away in her home on August 30, 2008. Arlene was born July 23, 1922 to William T. Webb and Lulu Wilson Webb in Ralls Texas.

She was affectionately nicknamed, “Suzy”. She is preceded in death by her brother, Dean Webb of Bakersfield, CA and sister, Isla Webb Robertson of Comanche, TX. She is survived by her loving husband of 66 years, Fritz; son, Ron and his wife, Mary; grandchildren, Robin of San Diego, CA and Scott who is in the US Naval Base in Maryland; many other loving family and friends. On May 30, 1942, Arlene married Fritz Ihnfeldt and they lived near Ralls, TX where Ron was born.

Arlene and Fritz moved to Security, CO in 1965 where she worked at Hibbard’s Department Store, a local variety store and operated her own sewing and tailoring business from home for several years.

One of her most memorable clients was Johnny Cash who visited the home for fittings. Suzy was an excellent seamstress and artist and took pride in her work. One of her best items was a needlepoint of the family heritage. There will be a viewing on Friday, September 6th from 3-5pm at Dove-Witt Fountain Valley Chapel, 6630 S. Hwy 85/87, Fountain, CO.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 7th , 2pm at Dove-Witt Fountain Valley Chapel. Private family interment.



Dr. Dallas Eugene Shafer
Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to all who knew him has gone to rest in eternal peace on August 15, 2008. He touched many lives and will be missed by those who were blessed to have known him. Dallas was born in Holyoke, Colorado on January 26, 1936. He received his baccalaureate in Pastoral Ministry from Nebraska Christian College in 1958, and his doctorate in Psychology from Walden University in 1979. He was active in Christian ministry for 52 years, serving as pastor at churches in Nebraska and Colorado. In his most recent service, Dallas developed and was director of Pastoral Care at Woodmen Valley Chapel. Some of his life-long ministry included helping establish a home for children with serious handicaps through the State of Colorado, conducting world wide marriage seminars for 32 years, serving as a consultant and teacher in South Africa, conducting workshops and marriage seminars for the US Army in Japan, and a mission trip to a Russian orphanage.

Dallas was a psychology professor for 27 years at PPCC where he developed curriculum specializing in gerontology, death and dying, grief counseling and served as psychology chair for 10 years.  He was an adjunct professor for graduate students at UCCS and was appointed by Governor Lamb to serve on the State Board of Examiners for nursing homes.  Dallas is the author of Approaches to Palliative Care in American Hospitals, and has served as a consultant and trainer for developing Pikes Peak Hospice. He was honored in Who’s Who in the West, 1994, 1995; Who’s Who in America, 1995; Who’s Who Among America’s Teachers, 1996; and Who’s Who in America, 2000. Dallas is survived by his wife, of 54 years, Opal; daughters, Kim (Reggie) Curry, Jana (Dale) Schmidt, Amy (Ernest) Storm; grandchildren, Dustin and Nicole Schmidt, Kelsey (Schmidt) Deus, Chaeli and Kiersten Storm; and sister Nancy Bacus. A Celebration of Life service will be held at Woodmen Valley Chapel, 290 E. Woodmen Rd., on September 13th at 10:00 a.m. The family requests memorial gifts be made to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E Pikes Peak Avenue Suite 600, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.


Jose (Joe) Salazar, resident of Fountain since 1937, passed away August 19, 2008 from natural causes. He was surrounded by his family at the time of his death.
 
He was born in New Mexico on September 19, 1918.
 
He was a World War II veteran and he also retired from the City of Colorado Springs in 1984. 
He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Rachel, his daughters Irene Salazar, Joyce Retana, Lena (Oscar) Chacon, Elaine (Robert) Ballejos, Veronica Salazar, Janet (Ali) Alshibly, 16 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren as well as a large extended family.
 
He was preceded in death by his father, Felimon Salazar, his mother, Bernadina Salazar, and his brother, Alfred J. Salazar. 
 Private services were held August 25. Internment was at Fort Logan in Denver.
