Fall Festival forms available
The Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce has chosen “Fiesta in the Valley” as the theme for this year’s 38th Annual Fall Festival on Labor Day.
A variety of entertainment is planned at Metcalfe Park, following the pancake breakfast to benefit Dollars for Scholars, and the parade.
Booth and parade entries are still being accepted and are available at the Chamber office, 114 N. Main St., Fountain. Call 382-3190 for more info.
Volunteers are needed- call the Chamber office.

Bible study meetings at GSUMC to resume
Colorado Springs South Day Community Bible Study will resume meeting on Wed, Sept 5th with orientation at Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, 1201 Leta Drive, from 9:25-11:15 a.m. Our study is the Gospel of John for the 2007/2008 year. There is a dynamic Children’s Ministry for infants to preschool age while Moms are in their bible study. This is a non-demoninational study for women of all levels of Bible knowledge. GSUMC news
Good Shepherd United Methodist Church is announcing that it is time for fall organization for the Children’s ministry. Sunday school will be at 10:15 each Sunday and Children’s Church will be part of both the 6 p.m. worship on Saturday night and the 9 a.m. service on Sundays. The director of Children’s ministries is Brenda Ledeboer.
Special music during the Worship on August 19 will be by the C & S quartet....Jim and Vanda Skadden and Don and Linda Cohu. They will sing “Beulah Land” and “Have a Little Talk with Jesus”. Rev. Barlow’s sermon will continue his series on old Testament people...this one will be on “Abraham”.
Mission emphasis for August will be “Methodist Student Day” and the special offering on August 19 will be sent to Alex Workman, a former member of the United Methodist Church in Durango who is in Asbury Seminary in Kentucky.
One way to be a good steward of God’s bounty is to patronize local Farmers Markets..Remember that produce in the grocery stores may have been trucked as much as 1400 miles using gasoline and packaging. Instead benefit our local farmers with your purchases and it will probably be fresher..

Fountain Valley Baptist Church to hold family film festival Saturdays
The FVBC will be hosting a free family film festival 6:30 p.m. every Sat. in August at 500 W. Alabama. “Be our guest for wholesome family entertainment, free snacks and good company,” a spokesperson said.
Child care will be provided. There will be a different movie each night, including, “Flywheel,” and “Facing the Giants.”

Fountain Valley Senior Center 6th Annual Golf Tourney is Sept. 8
Come out to the Valley Hi Golf course and golf for a good cause. All of the proceeds donated will benefit the Fountain Valley Senior Center.
The annual tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Valley Hi Golf Course at 610 South Chelton Road, Colorado Springs. The Shotgun Start will be at 8 a.m. There will be prizes awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin, Hole in One and the 4-person scramble team event. Corporate Sponsors are still needed and are welcome to contact us for further information. Donations for Door Prizes, Gift Bags, etc. are also welcome. Please make your check payable to Fountain Valley Senior Center.
If you cannot attend, but still want to help out, a Tax Deductible Contribution to support the Senior Center is more than welcome. The Senior Center offers a variety of services including transportation, nutrition, home delivered meals for homebound seniors, fitness and wellness, arts and crafts, indoor recreation and socialization, volunteer and educational opportunities, information and referral, and health screenings.

Fountain Riding & Roping Club August Calendar of Events
The Fountain Riding & Roping club has a variety of ongoing activities available.
On Wed. Aug. 1, 6 - 9 p.m. the Board of Directors will meet at the Lorraine Community Center. Anyone who wishes to hear or share ideas on equine activities with the Club is welcome to attend.
In addition, there’s lots to do at Metcalfe Park. On Fri. 3, 17 & 31 there will be a Jackpot Barrel Race. And on Sat. 18, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. join the Club for the Wild & Wooly Trail Course. On Sat. 4, 7 - 9 p.m. bring your horse and try your skill at Jackpot Sorting, or come in every Tues. evening 7 p.m. for team Sorting.

Meeting about animal abuse, plague is Aug. 22
In an attempt to address and educate the citizens of El Paso County on the animal abuse issue and the recent confirmation of the plague in Eastern El Paso County, State Representative Marsha Looper will be holding a special town hall meeting at 7 p.m. on Aug. 22 at the Calhan Veterans of Foreign Wars.
The meeting will be hosted by State Representative Marsha Looper.
Guest speakers include County Commissioner Denise Hisey, Sheriff Terry Maketa, Scott Dutcher from the State Animal Control Division, Dr. Metzler of the Pikes Peak Human Society, Jerry Renick of Saint Animal Rescue, representative from the Department Of Agriculture and the El Paso County Department of Health.

Fall Festival dance and parade slated for Sept. 2
Come have fun on Mon. at the 38th Annual Fountain Fall Festival, Fiesta in the Valley on Labor Day Weekend, Sun. Sept. 2 at 212 N. Santa Fe. There will be a BBQ supper, live music and a dance. Dinner will be served from 5 – 10 p.m. The dinner plates will be $5 per plate for adults, and $3 a plate for kids under 10. This event is sponsored by the Fountain Fire Department.
Fall Parade
The annual FFF Parade will wind its way down Hwy. 85/87 (Santa Fe) at 10 a.m. beginning near Comanche Village Drive, turning up Illinois Ave and back up Main, concluding in front of City Hall.
Enjoy a pancake breakfast at Fountain Middle School Dollars for Scholars Pancake Breakfast at 515 N. Santa Fe from 7 – 9:30 a.m. The breakfast plates
will be $5 per plate for adults, and $3 a plate for kids under 11. This event is sponsored by the Citizens Scholarship Foundation.
Stop by Metcalfe Park from 11 a.m. – 4 p.m. for crafts, food and entertainment. There will be a tractor pull provided by the Rocky Mountain Tractor Pull at 11 a.m., and entertainment in the gazebo by PM Productions with Emcee Phil Martinez, as well as the Folkorico Del Mar Pueblo Dancers with a mariachis band, the Fiesta Four Band and parade awards.
No pets allowed in the park, except the new Dog Park located in the southwest corner, past the ball fields

Memorial Yard Sale to benefit Muniz children is this Saturday
God’s Pantry will host a yard sale this Sat., Aug. 18, from 8 a.m. – 3 p.m. at 102 N. Main St, Fountain, to benefit the surviving children (ages 2 and 3), of Rachelle (Martinez) Muniz, who was killed last year, a victim of domestic violence.
If you cannot attend, but wish to contribute, contact God’s Pantry at 382-0643.
“Special thanks to Colorado Coalition Against Domestic Violence, God’s Pantry, the Fountain Wal-Mart, friends and family for their contributions and support,” a spokesperson said.

Toddler Time: This program gives an introduction to the delights of rhyme, rhythm, and a few special stories as a first step to reading for 1- and 2-year-old children and caregivers; Mondays at 10:30 a.m.

Fountain Library to have a garden tour
Join Manny Minjarez, experienced gardener, on a educational tour of the plants in the Fountain Library garden at 6 p.m. on Aug. 16. The plants in the Fountain Library garden include a great deal of low-water xeriscape plants.

Volunteers needed for Dog Park Committee
A committee to brainstorm ideas for the Fountain Doggie Park is needed. Anyone interested is invited to attend a meeting of the Friends of the Fountain Doggie Park at 6 p.m., Wed., Aug. 22 in City Hall. Signs will be posted directing visitors to the meeting room.
‘El Paso County Citizens’ College’ application deadline extended
The deadline to turn in El Paso County Citizens’ College applications has been extended from Aug. 10 to Aug. 17. Accepted applicants will be notified by Aug. 24.
This year’s expanded County Citizens’ College curriculum includes one class a week for eight weeks. The first class will begin on Wed. Aug. 29 and the college will conclude on Wed. Oct. 17 with a graduation ceremony and a roundtable discussion with the county commissioners. The sessions are from 5:30 – 8:45 p.m. and will be held in various locations, including the Pikes Peak Regional Development Center, the Department of Transportation Operation Center, and even the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center which will feature a tour of the jail, hosted by the Sheriff’s Office.

Request for Art Show Entries for Fountain Creek Nature Center
Fountain Creek Nature Center announces an Art Show & Sale 10 a.m. - 2 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 29 to celebrate fifteen years of nature programming for the public. Artists interested in submitting entries should contact Nancy Bernard at nancybernard@elpasoco.com. The theme is “Seasons of Fountain Creek,” but other related work will be considered. All media is welcome. Entries should be submitted in jpg form by August 8, 2007.
