Fountain-Fort Carson Lions Club to hold spaghetti dinner
The Fountain-Fort Carson Community Lions Club is holding a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, July 28, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 101 N. Main St., Fountain, before the Main Street Blast.
The dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m. The cost is $5 per plate which includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, breadsticks and drink.
The FFCCLC is a non-profit group which raises money to help pay for eye exams and eyeglasses for Fountain youngsters whose families otherwise could not afford them as well as many other things to help the community.
“Start your blast night off with a great dinner and help a great cause at the same time,” said FFCCLC President Debbie Messersmith. “All the money raised goes to help people in the Fountain Ft. Carson community.”
Fall Festival forms available
The Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce has chosen “Fiesta in the Valley” as the theme for this year’s 38th Annual Fall Festival on Labor Day.
A variety of entertainment is planned at Metcalfe Park, following the pancake breakfast to benefit Dollars for Scholars, and the parade.
Booth and parade entries are still being accepted and are available at the Chamber office, 114 N. Main St., Fountain. Call 382-3190 for more info.
Volunteers are needed- call the Chamber office.

Good Shepherd United Methodist Church
Members of Good Shepherd United Methodist Church invite everyone for a potluck supper on Sunday, August 12, at 6 p.m. Dessert will be furnished and favorite dishes will round out the meal. Expect to “Make a Joyful Noise!” since the meal is sponsored by Music Ministries of the church.
United Methodist Men will meet at the Venetucci Farm at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday, August 11, for a tour of this special farm.
Rev. Tom Barlow’s sermon series on people of the Old Testament will continue and will feature Noah for both the Real Life Worship on Saturday at 6 p.m. and the traditional service at 9 a.m., Sunday.
Good Shepherd is hosting a “Life Line Screening” on Monday, Aug. 13. These screenings use Doppler ultrasound technology and are non-invasive. Check their web site at www.lifelinescreening.com.
For the month of August at the traditional service, the lay reader is Jim Skadden and greeters are Emery and Shirley Cihak and Charles and Christa Dallas.
Volunteers led by Judy and Jay Hodges will host the church’s Food Pantry on August 9, 10 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Fountain Valley Baptist Church to hold family film festival Saturdays
The FVBC will be hosting a free family film festival 6:30 p.m. every Sat. in August at 500 W. Alabama. “Be our guest for wholesome family entertainment, free snacks and good company,” a spokesperson said.
Child care will be provided. There will be a different movie each night, including, “Flywheel,” and “Facing the Giants.”

Fountain Valley Senior Center 6th Annual Golf Tourney is Sept. 8
Come out to the Valley Hi Golf course and golf for a good cause. All of the proceeds donated will benefit the Fountain Valley Senior Center.
The annual tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Valley Hi Golf Course at 610 South Chelton Road, Colorado Springs. The Shotgun Start will be at 8 a.m. There will be prizes awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin, Hole in One and the 4-person scramble team event. Corporate Sponsors are still needed and are welcome to contact us for further information. Donations for Door Prizes, Gift Bags, etc. are also welcome. Please make your check payable to Fountain Valley Senior Center.
If you cannot attend, but still want to help out, a Tax Deductible Contribution to support the Senior Center is more than welcome. The Senior Center offers a variety of services including transportation, nutrition, home delivered meals for homebound seniors, fitness and wellness, arts and crafts, indoor recreation and socialization, volunteer and educational opportunities, information and referral, and health screenings.

Fountain Riding & Roping Club August Calendar of Events
The Fountain Riding & Roping club has a variety of ongoing activities available.
On Wed. Aug. 1, 6 - 9 p.m. the Board of Directors will meet at the Lorraine Community Center. Anyone who wishes to hear or share ideas on equine activities with the Club is welcome to attend.
In addition, there’s lots to do at Metcalfe Park. On Fri. 3, 17 & 31 there will be a Jackpot Barrel Race. And on Sat. 18, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. join the Club for the Wild & Wooly Trail Course. On Sat. 4, 7 - 9 p.m. bring your horse and try your skill at Jackpot Sorting, or come in every Tues. evening 7 p.m. for team Sorting.

Fountain Creek Nature Center announces an Art Show and Sale Sat., Sept. 29 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.,

Peak Vista community meeting for underinsured is tomorrow
Peak Vista Community Health Centers invites the community to an important meeting on on Thursday, Aug. 8 at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou Street, to hear from SB 208 Commissioners about healthcare reform in Colorado.
SB06-208 is the legislation passed in 2006 to establish a Blue Ribbon Commission for Healthcare Reform. The Commission was created to study and establish healthcare reform models for expanding coverage and to decrease health care costs for all Colorado residents, especially for the underinsured and uninsured. Its goal is to increase coverage and reduce cost and the Commission has adopted principles to guide its work.
