Overseeing the District 8 School board meeting for the first time as Superintendent Cheryl Walker took the helm without difficulty as the Board adjusted to their digs in the new Administration Building at 10665 Jimmy Camp Rd.
The accommodations are posh enough to rival City Hall itself with an imposingly immense Board table dominating the front of the room, and the southern wall equipped with expansive windows opening onto a vista of a lush meadow, and High Gate Farms beyond. Nonetheless, the mood was congenial with a fresh year ready to begin.
Unfortunately, (unless you’re a student, in which case, celebrations may be in order) school will be delayed for the students of Eagleside Elementary.
“In all my years of construction, I never would have guessed it,” said Dr. Roudebush, Assistant Superintendent of Academic Support Services in his progress report. “I’ve had weather delays. I’ve had labor strikes. I’ve had everything else.”
Roudebush described the hole-in-the bucket scenario that caused the delay. The sink countertops did not arrive from Canada. Without the countertops, they can’t put in the sinks. Without the sinks in they can’t hook up the plumbing. Without the plumbing, they can’t flush the system. If they can’t flush the system, the health department won’t conduct an inspection.
Due to this, the opening date has been pushed back three weeks. All parents with children attending Eagleside Elementary are being advised of a late start.
