You don’t need to drive into Colorado Springs for medical care. The staff of Peak Vista Fountain Health Center at 301 East Iowa wants the community to know health care services are available to everyone in Fountain Valley and beyond.
“We cover newborn to geriatric,” Dr. Amir Salek, MD explained. “We can provide multiple services from medical to dental and we can provide counseling. Pretty much, the sky’s the limit.”
The Clinic has been in place for two years. 42-year-old Salek completed his residency in 2006 at the University of Wyoming, and has been with Peak Vista since November of last year. He loves working with the Fountain Valley community.
“Most people have an interesting background and story that goes with them,” Salek said of his patients. “I tend to find the interesting part in every patient, and try to identify them as a unique individual. I look at the background and future, from little kids who want to be astronauts to grandparents that have lead a full life. They all have stories that we can learn from and relate to.”
The only services not available are emergency care, radiographs (x-rays) or ob/gyn care. The reason for this is don’t have radiograph or ultra-sound equipment. So if it involves chest pain, it’s a good idea to call 911, and if a bone may be broken, patients will need to go into the Springs for radiographs.
Clinical Team Manager Rosemarie “Rosie” Knox enjoys living in the Widefield community, and being able to bump into clients while out shopping. “I see a lot of people from the clinic, and it’s like a big, happy family. That’s what I like the most about working here, because it’s personable.”
Knox used to work as a business manager for Colorado Springs radio stations before making the switch to healthcare. “I like dealing directly with people,” Knox said. “I like the small town feel. People don’t realize how nice it is in Fountain Valley, but once they see, they want to move here. I love it. I’ll never move, and this is a really great place to work for because they really care. We try our best to provide quality health care.”
The clinic prides itself of providing a friendly, positive atmosphere.
“The good thing about family medicine,” said Salek, “is it’s not just one need you’re focusing on; it’s the whole person. In that respect, once the parents or grandparents get to know you and develop trust in your work, they always have other family they refer back to the clinic.”
Peak Vista accepts most forms of insurance and the services they offer include newborn care, colds and flues, diagnosis, long-term disease management, physical exams, immunizations, well-baby and well-child check-ups, minor illness and injury, routine follow-up care, referrals to community specialists, lab services as well as prescriptions and health education.
“A misconception people have about Peak Vista is that it’s a low-income clinic,” Knox explained, “but no, it’s for everybody. We even offer dental care.”
Clients are required to register with Peak Vista Community Health Centers so they can be seen quickly, and due to the busy schedule walk-ins are not accepted. The exception is Mon. – Fri. between 8 and 9 a.m. for children ages 0 to 18 for acute care, for example, for sore throats and the like.
The clinic is open Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. For more information, call 632-5700, Office: 322-0777.
