Henry J. Gottgetreu
May 9, 1920 - July 13, 2007
Henry J. Gottgetreu, age 87, of Colorado Springs, passed away July 13, 2007 in Colorado Springs.
Gottgetreu lived on Southmoor Drive for many years and was an owner/partner of Allied Builders which manufactured Modular Homes in the late 60’s or early 70’s, built in a building on the Pinello Ranch on Hwy 85-87.
He was born May 9, 1920 in Colorado Springs, a son of the late Henry A. and Jessie (Johnson) Gottgetreu. Henry graduated in 1939 from Colorado Springs High School. He was a self employed architect for many years, and worked as an architectural draftsman for Diets Architectural Service until he went into the United States Army in 1942. He served in England and France and was discharged in 1946 at Fort Logan, Colorado. After that, he worked in the construction industry helping build the Stratton Meadows and Park Hill areas, as well as many other homes around town, before moving to Westcliffe, Colorado in 1980 where he lived and worked until he retired in 2002. Henry was an active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles #143 for 65 years where he served as Past President. He also held a dual membership in the Eastside Eagles #3260. Other memberships include the Elks and the American Legion.
Gottgetreu is preceded in death by his sister, Jessie Mae Grey.
He is survived by one son: James Gottgetreu, Jr. of Lansing, Michigan; four grandchildren: Marissa of Lansing, Michigan, Vanessa, Brittney and Zachary and Great Grandson Xaiver of Lansing, Mich; as well as Niece, Diane J. Downs of Fountain; Great-nieces: Melissa Downs of Fountain, Lori Lederer of Ft. Knox, KY; and Great-great niece Alana Siebert of Ft. Knox.; and longtime companion, Rochelle Williams of Colorado Springs.
Memorial services were held July 17 at the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, 1050 S. 21st Street, Colorado Springs. Inurnment was at Evergreen Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Pikes Peak Hospice or the American Cancer Society through the Eagles #143. Arrangements were entrusted to Funeral and Cremation Care in Colorado Springs.
