Fountain-Fort Carson Lions Club to hold spaghetti dinner
The Fountain-Fort Carson Community Lions Club is holding a spaghetti dinner on Saturday, July 28, at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 101 N. Main St., Fountain, before the Main Street Blast.
The dinner will be served from 5-7 p.m. The cost is $5 per plate which includes spaghetti, meatballs, salad, breadsticks and drink.
The FFCCLC is a non-profit group which raises money to help pay for eye exams and eyeglasses for Fountain youngsters whose families otherwise could not afford them as well as many other things to help the community.
“Start your blast night off with a great dinner and help a great cause at the same time,” said FFCCLC President Debbie Messersmith. “All the money raised goes to help people in the Fountain Ft. Carson community.”
Fall Festival forms available
The Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce has chosen “Fiesta in the Valley” as the theme for this year’s 38th Annual Fall Festival on Labor Day.
A variety of entertainment is planned at Metcalfe Park, following the pancake breakfast to benefit Dollars for Scholars, and the parade.
Booth and parade entries are still being accepted and are available at the Chamber office, 114 N. Main St., Fountain. Call 382-3190 for more info.

Good Shepherd United Methodist Church news
Good Shepherd United Methodist Church, Leta at Main in Security, is taking appointments for pictures for a new Church Directory. Sign up in the church nartex and families will receive a free portrait.
Old Testament persons will be highlighted in Rev. Tom Barlow’s sermons during the coming weeks. Come on Saturday at 6 p.m. to Real Life Worship and meet “Adam and Eve”.
Traditional worship will be at 9 a.m. on Sun., Aug. 5. Special music will be a violin solo by Vanda Skadden.
Each worship service provides “Children’s Church” and includes a Fellowship Time.

Resurrection Lutheran Church annual garage sale is August 4
A garage sale will take place on Sat., Aug. 4, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Resurrection Lutheran Church, 4444 Moonbeam Drive, Colorado Springs. The congregation has donated many items for sale.
Proceeds go to the mission projects of Lutheran Womens’ Missionary Projects (LWML).
Brats, hotdogs and drinks will be for sale.

Day Camp
The Annual Sunday School Day Camp will be held 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. Mon. – Fri., Aug. 6 – Aug. 10 at Faith Lutheran, 315 Security Blvd., featuring the camp experience; getting closer to God and others through bible study, songs, crafts and friendship. The junior camp is for children entering Kindergarten through 6th grade. The senior camp is for youth entering 7 – 12 grades, and will be held 6 – 9 p.m., Mon. – Thurs.

Fountain Valley Baptist Church to hold family film festival Saturday
The FVBC will be hosting a free family film festival 6:30 p.m. every Sat. in Aug. at 500 W. Alabama. Come be their guest for wholesome family entertainment, free snacks and good company. Fountain Valley Senior Center 6th Annual Golf Tourney is Sept. 8
Come out to the Valley Hi Golf course and golf for a good cause. All of the proceeds donated will benefit the Fountain Valley Senior Center.
The annual tournament will be held Saturday, Sept. 8, at the Valley Hi Golf Course at 610 South Chelton Road, Colorado Springs. The Shotgun Start will be at 8 a.m. There will be prizes awarded for longest drive, closest to the pin, Hole in One and the 4-person scramble team event. Corporate Sponsors are still needed and are welcome to contact us for further information. Donations for Door Prizes, Gift Bags, etc. are also welcome. Please make your check payable to Fountain Valley Senior Center.
If you cannot attend, but still want to help out, a Tax Deductible Contribution to support the Senior Center is more than welcome. The Senior Center offers a variety of services including transportation, nutrition, home delivered meals for homebound seniors, fitness and wellness, arts and crafts, indoor recreation and socialization, volunteer and educational opportunities, information and referral, and health screenings.

Fountain Riding & Roping Club August Calendar of Events
The Fountain Riding & Roping club has a variety of ongoing activities available.
On Wed. Aug. 1, 6 - 9 p.m. the Board of Directors will meet at the Lorraine Community Center. Anyone who wishes to hear or share ideas on equine activities with the Club is welcome to attend.
In addition, there’s lots to do at Metcalfe Park. On Fri. 3, 17 & 31 there will be a Jackpot Barrel Race. And on Sat. 18, 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. join the Club for the Wild & Wooly Trail Course. On Sat. 4, 7 - 9 p.m. bring your horse and try your skill at Jackpot Sorting, or come in every Tues. evening 7 p.m. for team Sorting.

Security Library’s Summer Reading Activity Day
Preschool through 5th grade participants of the Security Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, Get A Clue At Your Library, are invited to the summer reading program party on Thursday, August 2. All registered participants, who have read at least 2 hours, have been given an invitation to attend the party on the Widefield Community Center picnic grounds from 10:30 to noon. There will be games, prizes, crafts, face painting, temporary ‘reading’ tattoos, and refreshments. You may also visit with some community helpers while you are here.

The Spotlight Players, formerly the Parish Players, have been entertaining people in the Fountain Valley area for over 25 years and giving the proceeds to area charities. A few years ago the group moved to the Fountain Valley Community Center, who now benefits from our fundraising efforts.
The requirements are 21 years of age (minimum), available on Tuesday nights (rehearsals) and Thursday, Friday & Saturday nights during performance week and a desire to put on quality shows that will give your friends and neighbors a taste of Broadway (really!)

Doggie Park Grand Opening at Metcalfe
The community is welcome 10 a.m., on Fri. Aug. 3 at Metcalfe Park for the new dog park grand opening. The Doggie Park was made possible by the City of Fountain Parks Dept., the City of Fountain Code Enforcement, Aquila Gas and the Cub Scouts Pack 238. Bring your dog and have fun.
God’s Pantry has shop night

Healthcare reform meeting is Aug. 8
Peak Vista Community Health Centers personnel invite the community to join them on Wednesday, Aug. 8, at 4 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church, 219 E. Bijou Street, to hear from SB 208 Commissioners about healthcare reform in Colorado.
SB06-208 is the legislation passed in 2006 to establish a Blue Ribbon Commission for Healthcare Reform.
The Commission was created to study and establish healthcare reform models for expanding coverage and to decrease health care costs for all Colorado residents, especially for the underinsured and uninsured.
Its goal is to increase coverage and reduce cost and the Commission has adopted principles to guide its work.

Free back-to-school carnival to be held in Colorado Springs
The Kids Crossing free back-to-school carnival will be held on Friday, Aug. 10 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Kids Crossing, 1440 E. Fountain Blvd. (located just south of Prospect Lake).
The carnival will feature free school supplies (while supplies last), hot dogs, cotton candy, popcorn, face painting, balloon animals, bounce houses, and carnival games with prizes.

Country Club Heights Neighborhood Watch to hold annual picnic on Aug. 7
Country Club Heights Neighborhood Watch members invite residents to participate in the annual picnic in the park on Tuesday, August 7, from 6-8 p.m. The picnic is held in the park at Fortman and Killington, behind Janitell Jr. High and is celebrated as part of the annual National Neighbor’s Night Out. There will be pizza and hot dogs. They ask that each family bring chips, side dish or dessert to share. Come out and meet your neighbors!!

American Legion Back-to-school carnival is Sat.
Sons of the American Legion Squadron 38 is hosting a back to school carnival from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Saturday at American Legion Post 38, 6685 Southmoor Dr., Fountain.
The event is open to the public.
There will be carnival games for children in grades K-6 with school supplies as prizes.
“One lucky student in each grade will win a fully-loaded backpack with all needed supplies,” a spokesperson said.
