We’re remaking our church page – We want your church to get noticed!
To make more space for church news, the life blood of our community, we have redesigned our church page to better serve the churches of our community.
Normally, we usually only get a few announcements from area churches who religiously (pardon the pun) submit news about the goings-on. We would like to expand upon this, soliciting more churches to submit announcements as well as news tips about special events, projects, missions, etc. that are being undertaken locally.
As space allows, we hope will include weekly feature stories about churches, as well as announcements.
To make space, announcement submissions will be printed in smaller type, giving top billing to the “feature stories.”
Because of space constraints, priority will be given to churches who advertise in the Church Service Directory (at the bottom of this page). For more information on listing your church in the Church Service Directory, simply call us at 382-5611 and list your schedule at a cost of only 50 cents per line! This fee is waived for all churches who have display advertising.
To tip us off to the goings on at your church, call reporter Linda Hobbs at 382-5611 or by email at news@ftnvalleynews.com. Announcements can also be submitted at the above email address, and are printed as space allows.

Local resident to raise fund for Crohn’s disease through 210 mile bike ride
On August 3 – 5, Brad Brashers will ride 210 miles in three days on bicycle in a ride created and supported by the “Get Your Guts in Gear Inc.”
The ride is to support research and empower people affected by Crohn’s and Colitis and to bring awareness to these diseases.
Crohn’s disease is a chronic disease that causes inflammation in the digestive tract. Ulcerative colitis is a chronic disease of the large intestine that cause inflammation and ulcerations to the colon’s innermost lining. These diseases are also know as IBD (inflammatory bowel disease), which affects 1.4 millions Americans. That is 1 in 214 people in the US have been diagnosed with IBD. Yet there is no known cure.
Bashers has had multiple surgeries for Ulcerative colitis. He was first diagnosed with UC in his mid 20’s after suffering from UC for 14 years and taking many different medications. He was told on his 39th birthday that he needed to have his large intestine removed due to the inflammation and complications from the medication that he was taking.
After three major surgeries and several minor ones, Bashers was left with an ostomy and a non-functioning pull-through that must eventually be removed. Bashers is now 43 and trying to take control of his life again. This disease has affected his family, friends and income but mostly his self-confidence and self respect.
Basher is riding 210 miles, despite not having been on a bike in many years, to take control of a disease that has controlled his life for many years. Also to help bring awareness and support to the disease.
Take a moment and make a donation to support Basher on his quest for a cure by visiting ibdride.com/bbrashers or by mail at 172 Norman Drive, Colorado Springs, CO 80911.
For information on Crohn’s or Ulcerative, colitis or Ostomy, the United Ostomy Association of American meets every 2nd Tuesday at 7pm at Health South Rehab Hospital in the cafeteria. Or visit www.uoaa.org
