BOCC covers Widefield issues

The Board of County Commissioners (BOCC) met on July 12 to discuss matters affecting all of El Paso County, including a few items related to the Security Widefield area.

El Paso County Commissioner for District 4 and Board Chairman Dennis Hisey shared a photo from the Fountain Valley News / El Paso County Advertiser and News of Patrick Caraulia of Fountain with the 16.6 lb, 33.5” catfish captured at Willow Springs Ponds recently, using nothing but a worm and six-pound-test line.

“Fishing is good,” Hisey remarked, encouraging people to visit the Ponds and enjoy the recreational spot.

Present at the BOCC meeting were D3 Sallie Clark, D5 Jim Bensberg, D4 Dennis Hisey, D1 Wayne Williams and D2 Douglas Bruce.

Approved with Bruce abstaining a resolution to proclaim Friday, July 20, 2007 as Western Wear Day in El Paso County. In celebration of the El Paso County Fair, Western Wear Day was approved, so put on your spurs, because on July 20, everybody’s a cowboy.

Unanimously approved the Land Use Consent Calendar, including:
- Fountain Valley Ranch, request by New Generation Homes, Inc., to amend the Fountain Valley Ranch Sketch Plan. The amendment is proposed to change the 9.53- acre elementary school site to single-family residential lots. The property is located south of Wageman Drive and west of Grinnell Boulevard. A waiver to allow more than 10 lots on a non-through street.
- The Glen At Widefield Filing, request by Glen Investment Group and Widefield Homes, Inc., the proposed approximately 90.987-acre sketch plan in the PUD (Planned Unit Development) and RS-6000 (Residential Suburban) Districts. The Sketch Plan will be modified to include 245 single-family lots with an average lot size of approximately 8,449 square feet (lower density), increased open space, increased drainage, and commercial land use eliminated. The property is located approximately 1/2 mile south of the intersection of Fontaine Boulevard and Powers Boulevard, and about 1,600 feet east of Powers Boulevard, within the proposed Fountain Valley comprehensive planning area. Also, rezoning and the Preliminary Plan.

The Board of County Commissioners regular published hearings are held on Mondays and Thursdays (except legal holidays) beginning at 9 a.m. in the 3rd floor hearing room of the County Office Building, 27 East Vermijo Ave., Colorado Springs, CO. In July and August a summer schedule is implemented and meetings are held Thursday’s only.

Audio and audio/video copies of the record may be purchased by contacting the El Paso County Clerk to the Board’s Office at (719) 520-6430.
