Dear Guru,

Are the World Wide Web and the Internet the same thing? I bet my brother they are the same thing, and we have been arguing this for weeks now.

Dear bet,

The World Wide Web, or www is simply a part of the internet as a whole. The WWW is the face of the internet, it is any website you visit, and it operates any thing you see in Internet Explorer. The Internet in whole also includes e-mail, databases, media streams, Wide Area Networks, Private Networks, and other forms of information. The WWW was created to make the Internet more user friendly by setting up a way to surf the net using names instead of numbers. This was also set up to use one address for dozens of
names. So to answer your question, Yes and No, the World Wide Web is just an arm of the internet.

Guru tip of the week:
MP3's ipods and media players:
MP3's are music files. Basiclly, each MP3 is a song. Most every PC today can make MP3's. You can load them into MP3 players such as the popular Ipod. An MP3 player will play your own mix of music in what order you wish. To make MP3's all you have to do is put your favorite CDs in the CD drive, open media player (All of them have a MP3 copdec) it will save the song, name, album cover and other info all into a single MP3 file. Your songs are usually saved in the My Music folder in your My documents folder.  you can
also use the Media player program to play the songs in the computer. there are stores online where you can purchace MP3s, or you can even trade with your friends and family. You can use an MP3 as a cellphone ringtone, a computer alarm, or replace any other sound with them.
Happy Computing!
