A victory for all Americans and our Second Amendment Freedoms...
The Supreme Court's ruling last week that Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting not only made U.S. History (as this was the Supreme Court Justices' first major pronouncement on gun rights) it was also a victory for all Americans and our Second Amendment Rights. The Supreme Court had not conclusively interpreted the Second Amendment (which reads, ''A well regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed'') since it was ratified 217 years ago.
Republican Presidential candidate John McCain summarized it well, stating, ''Unlike the elitist view that believes Americans cling to guns out of bitterness, todayís ruling recognizes that gun ownership is a fundamental right- sacred, just as the right to free speech and assembly.''
I couldn't agree more. No matter how one feels on these issues, it seems the more laws made to limit this and ban than and deny us certain rights donít serve ''we the people,'' very well at all! (Just my opinion!)
