Guru tip of the week:
It’s not really a computer tip, more than a technology tip in general.
In about seven months, Television signal will all convert to digital.
I am writing today to inform you on what you need to know, and what you need to get.
To receive digital TV, you need a digital tuner. Any TV made since 2006 has one of these tuners, any TV that’s HD (High Definition) compatible will also have one. If you have a cable box or Satellite receiver, those are digital boxes.
What benefits does digital TV have over regular TV?
If you have a regular TV, then the answer is nothing, Your shows will still look the same, except there will be no more static, interference, no more adjusting antennas, and no more TV snow. You will have more channels, Some cable channels will switch to regular air TV since it will be more cost effective for them. Digital conversion will allow up to 12 channels in the same space it now takes one channel, so instead of your channel lineup going from 2 to 88, it will go from 2 to 992.
If your TV isn’t compatible with the digital signal, you will need a conversion box. They cost from $30 to $150. The FCC has sent out vouchers so people who can’t afford them can receive one.
This website will get you the voucher.

All you do is plug the digital box into your TV like a VCR, and you’re set.
Digital can still use the same antenna, but a digital antenna will get you more channels. Finally, if you have cable, satellite, or an HDTV, you will have absolutely nothing to worry about, since they all are capable for the conversion.
