First United Methodist Church of Fountain news
Fountain Valley CARES is making 4th of July picnic baskets for local families in need. The church is donating 35 family size bags of regular potato chips. Put your donations in the foyer in the basket marked Fountain Valley Cares by July 1. Contact Lou Keeser for more information, 392-9722.
Nursery for children ages five and under is provided during worship time. Ask the usher for directions!

Sundays: Sunday School is at 9:15 a.m., Praise Music is at 10:15 a.m. and Worship follows at 10:30 a.m.
Mondays: Daytime—Support Group meets at 10 a.m.
Wednesday: Evenings: Bible/Support Group meets at 6:30 p.m.

Christian Church plans 4th of July festivities
Pikes Peak Christian Church will host a 4th of July community celebration from 3 - 10 p.m. on Wed., July 4 at the church, 4955 Bradley Road at the corner of Bradley and Hancock. Plans include food, games, jumping houses and a fireworks display. See related story in the special 4th of July section in the center of this issue!

Good Shepherd United Methodist Church
Good Shepherd United Methodist Church will welcome back Pastor Tom Barlow Saturday at the Real Life Worship service at 6 p.m. and the Sunday worship at 9 a.m. The church is located in Security, Main and Leta.
Pastor Barlow has been on vacation in Austria after being ordained, June 16, completing his studies to attain full pastorship.
The sermon is entitled “Identity.” The key scripture will be Genesis 12:1-3. Special music will be provided by Vanda Skadden, playing a violin solo.
“Vacation Bible School has just completed with 96 children attending; 65 volunteers and the directors made the week very successful,” a spokesperson said.
The Fisherman’s Chowder mugs continue to be on sale in the church office. They are the second in a series of six. Do not miss the opportunity to add to your collection.

Cheyenne Mountain Shadow Riders to hold next in Buckle Series
The Cheyenne Mountain Shadow Riders will host their next show in the Buckle Series on Sunday, July 22 wth Diane Morgan-Stasick as the Judge. The next show after that will be Sunday, Aug. 25, a two-judge-show with Donna Mills and Meghan Mizicko.

Softball camp for area girls to take place July 9-12
The Widefield High School girls softball coaches and players and the Widefield Community Center is offereing a softball camp for all area girls. Any girl age 6-14 can participate in this camp. The camp will be July 9-12. Girls age 6-9 will meet from 8:30 a.m. to 10 a.m. girls age 10-14 will meet from 10:15 a.m. to 11:45 a.m. The camp will be held at Field #2 at the Widefield Community Center. The registration fee for the camp is $30. All campers will receive a camp T-shirt. Register at the Community Center office or online at cc.wsd3.org and go to the Active Net link. Thunder in the Valley car show is July 7
The annual Thunder in the Valley car show, which benefits the Fountain Valley’s high school graduates through the well-known Dollars for Scholars program, will be Saturday, July 7, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. in front of the City Hall along Main Street in Fountain.
Dollars for Scholars is the lone beneficiary of the event’s proceeds. Call Ron at Book’s Automative & Tire Center, 382-5691 or Lori at Achievement Gallery at 447-8637.

Fall Festival forms available
The Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce has chosen “Fiesta in the Valley” as the theme for this year’s 38th Annual Fall Festival on Labor Day.
A variety of entertainment is planned at Metcalfe Park, following the pancake breakfast to benefit Dollars for Scholars, and the parade.
Booth and parade entries are still being accepted and are available at the Chamber office, 114 N. Main St., Fountain. Call 382-3190 for more info.
Volunteers are needed- call the Chamber office.

Security Public Library’s Summer Activity Day
Preschool through 5th grade participants of the Security Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, Get A Clue At Your Library, are invited to “Dave the Horn Guy” on Activity Day, Thursday, June 28, at 10:30 a.m. Dave Enns is an unstoppable force that puts on a show that is sure to shock and amaze. Jaws will drop as Dave makes sweet music by squeezing the 25 chromatically tuned bulb horns attached to his body. From Classics to Jazz, from Pop to Hip-Hop you’ll be astounded at the sights and sounds of Dave the Horn Guy’s performance. One man, Twenty-Five horns and unrivaled entertainment. Dave’s shows contain unbelievable acrobatic moves designed to amaze. You won’t believe your eyes and you’ll be on your feet shouting for more.You may remember seeing Dave the Horn Guy on TV last summer as a contestant on “America’s Got Talent”, now see him at Security Public Library.

Historic Society to have booth at car show
The Fountain Valley Historic Society will have a table of goodies and miscellaneous items to sell at the Thunder in the Valley car show event planned, Sat., July 7 from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m.. on Main Street in front of Fountain’s City Hall.
The Historical Society’s booth will be at the museum, 114 North Main Street.
“Stop by, have a snack and talk about the history of Fountain Valley,” a spokesperson said.

Fort Carson celebrating the 4th of July on the 3rd
Fort Carson is celebrating the 4th of July on July 3. The celebration starts at 4 p.m. at Ironhorse Park.
For the children, there will be “Gilligan, Skipper and Mary Ann” with free activities. There is also “Kids Kona Beach,” which is $5 for all day (4-9 p.m.). “The Beach” has a bubble machine, a salto-trampoline, a climbing wall, a giant slide and three other inflatables.
For the car enthusiasts, there will be a car show featuring a Lamborghini, a Bentley, a Ferrari and several older Thunderbirds.
For everyone, there will be live entertainment on the main stage:
From 4-5:15 p.m. and 5:35-7 p.m., Pan Jumbies, a steel-drum band will entertain; the Pikes Peak or Bust Rodeo Girls of the West will make an appearance from 5:15-5:22 p.m.; Tropical Coyotes, an Caribbean-style band playing hits of Jimmy Buffett, the Beach Boys and other classic rock hits, will perform from 7:20-8:15 p.m., 8:30-9:30 p.m. and 10-10:30 p.m.
Weather permitting, there will be fireworks from 9:30-10 p.m.
Food vendors will be selling food and beverages and Fort Carson Family Support Groups will be conducting a bake sale.
The event is open to the public. Drivers without Department of Defense-issued automobile passes will have to present a valid, current driver’s license, automobile registration and proof of insurance. Vehicles may be inspected. All adult passengers must have a current, government-issued photo identification. Fireworks and sparklers are not permitted on post.

Sky Sox to have fireworks display at stadium July 3
As the Sky Sox continue their race for first place in July, their hot play will not be the only thing on fire during the month of July. Speaking of fire, there will be four fireworks shows in July including a special July 3rd performance with the team away on July 4th. While the Sky Sox are away on July 20th, the annual legends game will take place at Security Service Field a game that will feature former major leaguers like Rich “Goose” Gossage who was not only a well known closer, but also a former Rockies pitching coach.

Fountain Fire Chief: ‘If you have to light it, it’s illegal’
Fountain Fire Chief Darin Anstine reminds citizens who live inside of the Fountain City Limits that the sale, use or possession of ANY firework inside the city limits of Fountain is illegal.
“If you have to light it, it’s illegal,” Anstine said.
The City of Fountain has one of the toughest penalties for fireworks; up to a $1,000 fine and imprisonment for up to one year or both a fine and imprisonment.
To report a person selling, using or possessing fireworks, call the Fountain Police Department at 382-8555.

4th of July Closures
All banks, schools, city and county offices, postal services, libraries, and utilities will be closed in observance of Independence Day, Wednesday July 4.
The Fountain Valley News / El Paso County News offices will also be closed on July 4. Deadlines for all submitted stories, classified ads, and display advertising will be Friday, June 29 at 4 p.m.
