Walt Fortman School Supply Drive announced
Yearly the Walt Fortman Center in Fountain organizes a school supply drive to benefit all Valley school children. The Walt Fortman Center is one of five centers run by Pikes Peak Community Action Agency in El Paso County. Their mission is to improve the lives of households experiencing short term financial set backs and treat them with respect and dignity. In keeping with this, sending children to school without the basic supplies is embarrassing for kids and parents, making their transition difficult and seting them up for failure before they get started.

The Walt Fortman Center has for 7 years worked with volunteers and businesses to gather school supplies for kids. They are asking your business to participate and allow them to place a box for donations in an obvious area. The boxes will have supply suggestions and be nicely wrapped for presentation. The staff and volunteers will check the boxes on a weekly or bi-weekly basis, unless they get full quickly, then call and they will arrange to pick up that day or the next.

Let them know if your business is willing to participate. This school supply drive will be completed and boxes removed by July 27. The supplies will be sorted and stored at the Walt Fortman Center or the Lorraine Community Services building where distribution will take place on August 3 or 4.

Call Supervisor/Counselor Jackie Meehan or Program Assistant WFCC Jolene Chapman at 382-8515 between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. (closed 12-1 for lunch).
