Business seminar for women is June 6
Jim Boudreau and Chuck Larson of Edward Jones and Oppenheimer Funds are hosting a free financial workshop designed especially for women at 6 p.m. Wed., June 6, at the Fountain Valley Senior Center, 5725 Southmoor Dr., Fountain.
“No matter where you are, this Oppenheimer Funds Women and Investing Make It Happen! workshop may help propel you even further toward realizing your own financial success and the future you really want,” Boudreau said.

In the absence of the regular reporter, Brewster Bear, mascot of Good Shepherd’s Children’s Ministries takes pen to hand and reports the following: “Hello, there! Brewster Bear reporting for Good Shepherd United Methodist Church. It has been a busy week here at Good Shepherd. The Children’s Ministries activities are winding down in several areas and in others they are gearing up.
“This past Wednesday evening was the last meeting until fall for the WNA (Wednesday Night Activities) Club. The children and leaders celebrated a great year with an awards ceremony, eating pizza and celebrating a leader’s birthday. Happy belated Birthday, Brad!
“This past Sunday was the last gathering for the Sunday School Children until next fall. The children will be presenting a special musical number at the Sunday Morning Worship Service on June 3.
“Now Children’s Ministries is gearing up for Vacation Bible School, June 18-22 from 8:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m. each morning. The children of the community are invited to join in a “Return to the Holy Land Adventure.” There is a suggested donation fee of $5 per child or a maximum amount of $15 per family. Scholarships are available. For further information please contact the church office at 392-5782.
“Please join us on Saturday evening at our Real Life Worship Service which begins at 6 p.m. It is a time of praise singing, prayer, and worship. Or you are invited to join us on Sunday mornings at 9 a.m. for our traditional worship service. Pastor Barlow will deliver a message from 1 Corinthians 15:19-16 on “First Fruits” at both services.
“The Guatemala Missionary Team is planning a Guatemalan Meal for Friday, June 8 at Sunrise Methodist Church. For more information contact the church office.

Mountain Metro provides Sunday bus service on Memorial Day
Mountain Metropolitan Transit will operate the fixed-route Mountain Metro and the paratransit Metro Mobility on a Sunday schedule on Memorial Day, Monday, May 28. Holiday bus service on Memorial Day is available due to the passage of the Pikes Peak Rural Transportation Authority (PPRTA) in November 2004. The Front Range Express (FREX) and the FREE Downtown Shuttle (Route 55) will be closed and resume regular operations on Tuesday, May 29. For specific route time and bus information, consult individual route schedules available at the Downtown Terminal Information Booth, visit www.SpringsGov.com/transit, or call Mountain Metro at (719) 385-RIDE (7433).
Veterans Memorial ceremony planned
Organizations will hold their annual Memorial Day Ceremony on Memorial Day, May 28 at the Veterans Memorial on Union Boulevard at Memorial Park, Colorado Springs, at 11 a.m. Guest speaker will be CMS Terrance McWilliams, Fort Carson.
In case of inclement weather, the ceremony will be moved to the Retired Enlisted Association, 834 Emory Circle, Colorado Springs.
Vendors wanted for Farmers Markets
The Fountain Downtown Events Association will start hosting its Farmers Markets on Tuesday nights from 4-8 p.m. in front of Fountain City Hall beginning on June 12.
Craft vendors are being sought to add to the variety of offerings. Space fee is $10 per week. For more information call 237-5181.
Security Library announces summer reading program
Registration for Security Public Library’s Summer Reading Program, “Get a Clue at Your Library,” begins May 29 and continues through July. Upon registration, preschool children through 5th grade will receive reading logs, activity calendars and bookmarks. Special activities will be held on Thursdays for participants.
