CHURCH ANNOUNCEMENTS Gideon Baptist Church news
Gideon Baptist Church is starting off the month by honoring Mothers with a Mothers and Daughters Tea on Saturday, May 12, at 2 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall. The Mother’s Day service will be this coming Sunday at 10:30 a.m. There won’t be Sunday school or the regular p.m. service.
If you and your family do not as yet have a church home, we invite you to join with us for a wonderful time of celebrating Mother. A small gift will be given to each mother who attends.
Gideon is located just east of the corner of C & S Road and Fountain Mesa at 1320 C & S Road. For more information call the church at 382-5535.

Good Shepherd United Methodist Church news
Good Shepherd United Methodist Church has a beautiful Rose Garden on the east side of the church. It has recently been refurbished for summer under the direction of Loy Jones and contains an Angel in memory of Beulah Harrison.
Located at Main and Leta in Security, Good Shepherd welcomes you to Real Life Worship each Saturday night at 6 p.m. and to a traditional service at 9 a.m. on Sunday morning.
Rev. Tom Barlow’s sermons are currently on “Peace” and this weekend will feature “The Life of Peace” based on John 16: 31-33. Both services are followed by fellowship and church school classes. Good Shepherd’s food pantry each Thursday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. is now supervised by Judy and Jay Hodges, assisted by a group of about 20 volunteers. United Methodist Men will meet at the church on Saturday, May 12 at 7:30 a.m.
Both Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts meet at Good Shepherd. On Saturday, May 11, a special “Girl Scout Celebration” is scheduled in Cooper Hall. “First Contact Team” of Good Shepherd led by Judy and Ben Wentworth is a group of people who contact visitors and welcome them by phone and in person in their homes. Other members of the team are Gerry and JoAnn Gerber, Sharon and Bill Heintzen, Marsha and Randy Jones, Marge and Gene Krause and Jim and Vanda Skadden.

Chamber golf tourney is seeking sponsors and participant registrations
The 3rd Annual Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will be held Mon., May 14, at Cheyenne Shadows Golf Course on Fort Carson.
Registration will be at 7 a.m. with an 8 a.m. shotgun start (scramble rules.)
The entry fee is $100 for an individual golf and $350 for a foursome. The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, continental breakfast, range balls, door prizes, lunch and awards recognition.
“Non golfers are welcome to join us for lunch and the awards presentation immediately following the 18 holes of golf (around noon),” a spokesperson said. “The cost is $15 and reservations are required.”
If it rains or snows, the tournament will be held on May 21. The event is usually held at Appletree Golf Course, but that course is closed for renovations.

Junior Master Gardener's Program at Venetucci Farm accepting limited number of youth applicants
This summer, Venetucci Farm is offering a free six-week class to students in third through fifth grades. This hands-on class will cover topics and activities in making compost, ecology and the environment, insects and plant diseases, landscape and horticulture and growing vegetables and herbs. We have opennings for 12 students. The first to respond will be reserved a spot.
The class will take place Thursdays from 1-2:30 p.m. The first class is Thursday, June 14 (classes will meet each Thursday with the last class on July 26. There will not be a class on Thursday, July 5). There is no cost for the class and all students will receive a Junior Master Gardener’s Handbook, courtesy of the Colorado State University Cooperative Extension El Paso County. All classes will take place at the Venetucci Farm, 5210 Highway 85.
To reserve a spot, e-mail lstebbins@ppcf.org or call Larry Stebbins at 389-1251 ext. 106 and leave a message. Include the name of the student, present grade level, and phone number. Only those that are selected will receive a returned e-mail confirmation or will be called before May 30. The application deadline is May 23.
Instructors include Catherine Moravec, Horticulture Extension Agent, Colorado State University Cooperative Extension El Paso County; and Larry Stebbins, Master Gardener, Education Coordinator at Venetucci Farm.
You must have transportation to and from the farm. It is necessary that students are able to arrive on time and be picked up on time.
Reception for District 3’s top official is May 10
Widefield School District 3 will host an appreciation reception for Superintendent Mark Hatchell, Thursday, May 10, from 6 to 7 p.m. in the Administration Building Board Room. Refreshments will be served. Dr. Hatchell has served Widefield School District 3 for the past 15 years in several capacities, including assistant principal, principal, executive director of curriculum and instruction, assistant superintendent, and superintendent. He has been District 3 superintendent for the past six years.
On July 1, Dr. Hatchell will assume the duties of superintendent of Academy School District 20.
Fountain Farmers' Market returns to City Hall plaza
The Fountain Downtown Events Association is once again hosting Tuesday evening Farmers' Markets in the plaza in front of Fountain's City Hall. The market will be open from 4 to 8 p.m. For more information, call 447-8637..

Air Force band gives free concert
The United States Air Force Academy Band invites you to attend a free public concert featuring the Concert Band and Blue Steel, commemorating Armed Forces Week.
This concert will be presented on Tuesday, May 15, at 7 p.m. at the Pikes Peak Center in downtown Colorado Springs. Tickets are required for this event and are available at the Pikes Peak Center Box Office and the World Arena Box Office. Please call (719) 554-BAND for more information.
Chamber Recital Series final concert to be May 22
The United States Air Force Academy Band invites you to attend the last concert of the 2006-2007 Chamber Recital Series, featuring Senior Master Sergeant Mark Burditt and Master Sergeant Scott Crump, trombones.
This concert will be held on Tues/, May 22, at 7:30 p.m. at Packard Hall, on the campus of Colorado College, located at the southwest corner of Cache La Poudre and Cascade in Colorado Springs.
This concert is sponsored by the Colorado College Music Department.
