Fountain Valley Job Fair
The Fountain Valley Job Fair will take place Wednesday, April 25 from 10 a.m. until 3 p.m. For more info, call Duke at 667-3839.
“Let’s Cut Out Cancer”
That’s the theme of a cut-a-thon to benefit the Rock ‘n’ Rollers Relay Team which is participating in the Fountain Valley Relay For Life.
The cut-a-thon will be held Sun., May 6, at Family Hair Care, 30 Widefield Blvd. The minimum donation is $10 per haircut.
There will be a bake sale and lunch will be available.
The Relay For Life benefits the American Cancer Society. The event will be held June 2-3 at the Mesa Ridge High School track.
Ent to hold youth seminars
Did you know that 8- to 21-year-olds have incomes totaling over $200 billion, most of which they spend rather than save? Educating youth about money management is increasingly important, and Ent believes we should teach them while they’re young.

Good Shepherd United Methodist Church news United Methodist Women of Good Shepherd Church, Leta at Main in Security, are sending nine members to a UMW Retreat at Estes Park this weekend.

Thanks to all the persons in the community who supported the Spring Garage Sale at the church last weekend. Items not purchased were donated to “God’s Pantry” in Fountain.
Rev. Tom Barlow is beginning a sermon series on Peace. Next weekend the sermon will be based on Psalm 29 at both the Traditional Service at 9 a.m. on Sunday, April 22, and at 6 p.m. on Saturday for the Real Life Worship.
The Community Women’s Bible Study meeting this year at Good Shepherd will hold their last meeting on April 25 at 8:30 a.m.

Baseball Begins in Metcalfe Park
Weather permitted games to be played this past week and all day Saturday at Metcalfe Park in Fountain. The pre-season games will continue according to the printed schedule unless changes are made through president Dale Terrell by calling 382-7227 (trailer) or 382-7649 (home). Volunteers are still needed to ensure the success of our baseball program. Please contact Rose Terrell if you would like to volunteer. Anyone who would like to help in the concessions stand should call or come down. If you missed the training you still can volunteer. Dottie, Birgit, or Rose will train you OJT. Revenue from the concessions stand pays for the umpire fees. PLEASE HELP OUT!!

Chamber golf tourney is seeking sponsors and participant registrations
The 3rd Annual Fountain Valley Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament will be held Mon., May 14, at Cheyenne Shadows Golf Course on Fort Carson.
Registration will be at 7 a.m. with an 8 a.m. shotgun start (scramble rules.)
The entry fee is $100 for an individual golf and $350 for a foursome. The entry fee includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, continental breakfast, range balls, door prizes, lunch and awards recognition.
“Non golfers are welcome to join us for lunch and the awards presentation immediately following the 18 holes of golf (around noon),” a spokesperson said. “The cost is $15 and reservations are required.”
If it rains or snows, the tournament will be held on May 21. The event is usually held at Appletree Golf Course, but that course is closed for renovations.

Arbor Day Celebration is Sat.
The 2007 Fountain Arbor Day Celebration will take place this Saturday, from 9:30 a.m. until noon at the Fountain Mesa Park, near Janitell Junior High School on Fortman Drive
As part of the festivities, organizers need your help to plant 38 trees in the park.
“No digging required!” a spokesperson said. “All you need to bring is your energy, work gloves, and shovel!”

Kite & Wind Festival is Sat.
Colorado’s only Kite and Wind Festival will take place at Fountain Creek Nature Center Saturday from 10 a.m. - 3 p.m. Features include a nature center kite exhibit, kids’ crafts, balloon animals, kite sales, a visit from Louie the Lightning Bug, numerous workshops, presentations and contests, and a chance to fly your kite in the meadows.
The all-day admission fee is $4 per person. Children 3 and under are free. Proceeds support El Paso County Park Nature Centers. For more information, or to reserve a place in a kite making workshop, call 520-6745.
D3 sets up relief fund for employees' fire losses
Widefield School District 3 has set up a relief account for recent victims of a house fire in Green Mountain Falls. The home was a complete loss. The owners, Kathy and Wes Baki are well known to local residents. Kathy is a sixth-grade teacher at North Elementary and Wes is a retired District 3 teacher. Wes, who was injured was reported to be in fair condition in the burn unit at University Hospital in Denver. He was expected to be hospitalized for at least one month. Kathy, who was not injured, is living in a hotel in Denver while monitoring Wes’s condition.
“Kathy has no place to store a lot of items at this time, so the school district has set up a relief fund at the District 3 Federal Credit Union,” District 3 Public Information Officer James Drew reported.
If you would like to donate money to help the Bakis, please send your checks to the Credit Union, payable to the “Baki Relief Fund.”
Community Center announces preschool
The Widefield School District Community Education and Recreation Services will be having the annual registration lottery for Kreative Kinder Preschool (KKP) on Tuesday, May 29, at 6 p.m. and Terrific Tots Playschool (TTP) on Wednesday, May 30 at 6 p.m., for the 2007-2008 school year. Children must be 3 years old by 10/1/07 to register for the TTP program and 4 years old by 10/1/07 to register for the KKP program.

Dinner at FFCHS to benefit teacher’s child
Fountain-Fort Carson High School’s National Honor Society will host a fund-raising “black and white” semi-formal dinner to help out one of their own; gym teacher Sarah Brockberg. The benefit dinner raise vital funds to assist Ms. Brockberg and her child, Kyra, who was diganosed with Muscular Dystrophy. This is currently an untreatable disease and claims the lives of many children still in their infancy.
The benefit dinner is set to take place on May 5, at 6:30 p.m. at Fountain-Fort Carson High School. The dinner choice consists of Veggie Lasagna, Lasagna, or Teriyaki Chicken; all include dessert and beverages.
Two “extremely talented” pianists will provide entertainment. Tickets are on sale at Fountain-Fort Carson High School or through members of the National Honor Society. Prices are $15 dollars for students with any student ID through their high school, and $20 for adults. All proceeds will be donated to Ms. Brockberg to help meet some of Kyra’s medical bills.
Jail and Bail event planned April 28
A benefit fund-raiser to beneft the Talbott Tiger’s Relay For Life team, which is raising vital funding for the American Cancer Society through the upcoming Fountain Valley Relay for Life is planned Sat., April 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. near the old Kmart Shopping Center in Fountain (between Applebee’s and Wendy’s. )
There will be crafts and baked goods for sale, old-time photos and much more.
The Gold Canyon Gunfighters will perform re-enactments of the old west. See related ad on page 20 in the print edition for more info.
City of Fountain Clean-Up Week is set for May 7-11
The City of Fountain will conduct its city-wide Clean-Up Week May 7 - 11. The free collection for residents (not businesses) will include items such as yard debris, carpet, mattresses, scrap metal, small amounts of wood scraps, used furniture, tree trimmings, broken bicycles, appliances, etc. Tree limbs must be tied in bundles for easier handling.
Some large, bulky items can be hauled for a small fee. See the ad on page 5 of this week's print edition for more info. and for a full schedule for clean up week.
Fountain Library to host regional authors
Pikes Peak Library District will host its first regional authors event, “Mountain of Authors” to showcase authors of the Pikes Peak region, and offer presentations about writing and publishing.
The free program will be held from 1 – 5 p.m. this Sun., Apr. 29 at East Library, 5550 N. Union Blvd., in Colo. Spgs. No registration is required.
It will include a presentation and book signing by award winning author, Sandra Dallas. She will speak about her new book, “Tallgrass.” Dozens of authors from the Pikes Peak region will be available to meet the public and participate in a book sale.
Other speakers will be authors Craig Brown (children’s fiction and nonfiction) and Gary Penley (historical fiction).
