OBITUARIES

Robert (Bob) L. Hargis, age 79, a resident of Widefield, CO passed away into the Lordís arms at his home on Sunday, March 2, 2008. He was a retired TSGT in the US Air Force and served in the Korean War in the Navy as a Gunners Mate. He was born on February 21, 1929 in Rolla, Missouri. Bob was a family man who enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed coin collecting and spending time with his dogs. He is survived by his loving wife, Coralee; his daughters, Jill Williams of Fort Belvoir, VA and Linda Hargis of Widefield, CO; and his three grandsons, Chad Bowers, Ryan Bowers and Brandon Williams.

Graveside services were held on March 7 at Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Colorado Springs, CO. Donations can be made in his name to the American Heart Association.


Betty Kupfner
Nov 4, 1926 - March 4, 2008

Betty Kupfner formerly of Security/Widefield, CO, passed away on March 4, 2008, in Sierra Vista, Arizona.

She was born in Johnstown, PA to Ernest and Frances Henry.† She married Russell Kupfner on June 13, 1952, in Boulder, CO. Russ passed away July 26, 1998 after 46 wonderful years of married companionship.

Betty worked as a telephone operator at the former ENT/Pete Field Air force Base, Air Force Academy and as Chief Operator at Ft. Carson, CO.

Survivors include two daughters Candy Koen and Debby (Jim)† DeRosa of Sierra Vista, AZ, one sister Lorraine Glessner of Jennerstown, PA, dear sister-in-law Clara Johnson of Louisville, CO,† grandchildren: Stephanie (Chad) Martino and Nicole Mosher of Austin TX, Ali (Patrick) Guida of Littleton, CO and one great grandson Caston Martino.

A graveside service was held 10:00 a.m. at Mountain View Memorial Park, 3016 Kalmia Ave. in Boulder on Monday March 10th, 2008.

MARK ALAN RAYMOND
JULY 30, 1960 - MARCH 11, 2008

Mark Alan Raymond, 47, lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on Tuesday, March 11, 2008.

Alan was a native of Key West, Florida and resided in the Colorado Springs area with his wife and daughter for the past 21 years.

He was a devoted father, husband, son, brother and friend. His loving spirit and precious memories will live on in the hearts of his surviving family, his wife, Beth and daughter, Caitlin of Security, CO; his two sons, Mark of Miami, FL, and James of Vero Beach, FL.; his mother, Annette, and sister, Tonya, of Ocala, FL; his brother, Keith of Royal Palm Beach, FL, and his many nephews and nieces.

Alan became a grandfather to his first grandson, James Cooper, born on March 12, 2008.

A private service took place at the family home followed by a reception at the Pikes Peak Christian Church.


Laurence D. McClain
January 17, 1934 - March 14, 2008

Laurence D. McClain, 74 a Colorado Springs resident since 1962, passed away on Friday, March 14, 2008. He was born on January 17, 1934 in Des Moines, Iowa to Clarence H. and Elide May (Spencer) McClain. Laurence married the love of his life, Dorothy L. Rose on July 25, 1955. He served in the US Army during the Korean War and retired as a Civil Service employee. He also spent time with Phil Long Ford. Laurence was an avid fisherman and hunter, as well as a loving father and grandfather. He loved being Santa Claus over the holidays.

Laurence is survived by his daughter, Sheri (Guy) Jordan; his son, Lawrence (Kathy) McClain; his siblings, Howard McClain, Wayne McClain, and Marylne Boroff; ten grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Service will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2008 at 1:00 PM at Dove-Witt Fountain Valley Chapel, 6630 S. Highway 85/87, Fountain. A gathering of family and friends will be held at VFW Post 3917, 4715 Clearview Loop, Security, following the services. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made to Pikes Peak Hospice, 825 E. Pikes Peak Avenue, Suite 600, Colorado Springs, CO 80903.


Marianne Harrison, a longtime Colorado Springs resident passed away on February 27, 2008. Marianne was born in Germany on April 15, 1939 to Heinrich and Margarete (Kloess) Schaefer. She married the love of her life, Alan W. Harrison on January 4, 1963 in Pirmasens, Germany. She followed Alan throughout his military career until they reached Colorado Springs and decided to retire. She loved the mountains and felt like she had come home.

Marianne is survived by her husband, Alan; her daughter, Marion Brown; grandchildren, Amanda, Ricky, Angel and Larry; her twin sister, Renate` and her family; her sister-in-laws, Dodie, Tina and Karen and their families; her brother-in-law, Nick and his family; and all ìher babiesî, her cats and dogs.

Visitation was held on March 9 at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary, Fountain. Funeral services were held on March 10, followed by burial at Fort Logan National Cemetery.

Marianne will be deeply missed by her family and friends.

 


Mary Jo Townsend
July 29, 1938 - March 12, 2008

Mary Jo Townsend passed away March 12, 2008, at her Fountain home. She was born July 29,1938 in Colorado Springs, Colorado, to Buck and Mary Eaton. Married to Francis E. Townsend November 19, 1955 in Colorado Springs, CO. (Deceased) Preceded in death by four sons; Eddy, Brett, Calvin, Ron Townsend, and sister Carolyn Kuhns. She survived by son M. Scoti, five grandchildren Scott D., MaryAnn, Laura, Angel, and Julia Townsend, sister Ellen Schubarth, brother Will Eaton (Sue), Uncle Harry Pinnello, and Aunt Fannie Peck. She was employed by Fountain-Fort Carson school district 8, as fleet maintenance clerk. She also leaves behind several acquaintances and friends. She enjoyed her grandchildren, cats, country living, and baking for the employees she worked with.

Visitation was held March 18 followed by services and burial at Evergreen Cemetery. In lieu of flowers please send memorial contributions to Pikes Peak Humane Society.


Alma H. (Sue) Brereton
December 18, 1928 - March 4, 2008

Alma H. (Sue) Brereton passed away on March 4, 2008 in Colorado Springs. She was born December 18, 1928 in Norwich, New York, the daughter of Maynard and Lillian Hammond of Sparrowbush, New York. She attended Port Jarvis High School, SUNY/Delhi, and West Virginia Wesleyan College. On September 9, 1950 she married Thomas F. Brereton.

Sue is survived by her husband of 57 years, the Reverend Thomas Brereton; her son, Dr. Todd Brereton; her two daughters, Susan Miner (Alan), Lisa Ward (Bill); and two brothers, John and George Hammond. She has two grandchildren, Benjamin and Jacob Ward.

She was preceded in death by her parents and three older brothers, Robert, Maynard, Jr., and Fred Hammond.

Sue was a devoted and loving homemaker, wife and mother. She was employed for many years in the Richfield Springs, New York, school system where she taught reading. In addition, she dedicated several years in volunteer work to early childhood education as a ìgrand friendî in Colorado Springs schools. She also volunteered many hours of public service by providing English language skills to adults, and was a member of a crafts club that knitted infant caps for premature babies born in local hospitals. During her life she traveled widely. She was an avid reader, and she enjoyed needlework and other crafts, as well as bird watching an playing Scrabble. She especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, Ben and Jake. Finally, her whole life was dedicated to the service of her Lord and His Church.

Funeral services will be held at St. Raphaelís Episcopal Church, 820 Leta Drive, Security, Colorado on Friday, March 14, 2008 at 2:00 PM. Interment will follow at the columbarium of St. Raphaelís Church.

In lieu of flowers, the Brereton family requests that memorial contributions be made to St. Raphaelís Episcopal Church.
