OBITUARIES

Chavez, Anton (Tony) B.

98, died peacefully at his home of 51 years in Security CO on Fri, Feb 15 2008. He is survived by his wife Thelma, daughter Darlene Wells, of Security, and son Guy of Denver. He has one surviving brother, Eugene of Salinas, CA. ìTonyî has 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by sons Gregory (1970) and Larry Chavez (1996).

Tony was born on Oct 16, 1909 in Pueblo, CO. Tony served in the Armed Forces from 1942-1946 and saw Active Duty from 1943-1946 when he was honorably discharged. Tony married Thelma Fitzpatrick in Nov 1946; they recently celebrated 61 years of marriage. He worked in a Civil Service position at Ft Carson for 30 years until retirement. Tony served as a Boy Scout master for Troop 73 during the 1960ís. He was a Lifetime member of the American Legion Post 38 in Colorado Springs where he served as Post Commander in 1971 and 72. He was actively involved in the Pikes Peak or Bust rodeo for a number of years and was also a member of the Knights of Columbus and VFW.

Visitation will be Thurs, Feb 21 from 4-7 pm at Dove-Witt Funeral Home 6630 S Hwy 85/87 Security, CO. followed by a Rosary service at 6 pm. A Funeral Mass will be Friday Feb 22, 11:15 am, Holy Family Catholic Church, 331 Main St, Security. Lunch will be served immediately following the service. A private burial will be at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver.


Roy Brown

January 7, 1956 - February 11, 2008

Roy, a resident of Fountain, Colorado for 16 years was born in Eastham, Massachusetts to Ellsworth E. and Ethel M. Brown. He is survived by 2 daughters: Skyla Earl of Widefield, Colorado and Lisa Hayes of Brewster, Mass. He was preceded in death by his parents.

Roy is survived by his brothers and sisters: Ellsworth E. Brown, Jr., David W. Brown, Phillip J. Brown, John A. Brown, Laura M. Sullivan, Michael W. Brown and Anne M. Sweeney as well as many nieces, nephews, grand nieces and grand nephews and special friends, Darrell and Mary Moberly and many others.

Roy served his country and was honorably discharged from the Army. He was an avid fisherman and loved camping at Spinney Mountain Reservoir as well as fishing with his family on Cape Cod

Roy loved talking about his two daughters and his family.

We will all miss his laugh and good humor.


E. Duane George

February 21, 1927 ñ February 12, 2008

Born February 21, 1927 in Kalamazoo, MI. Duane was a manager with AAA Insurance in Kalamazoo and then managed Duffelboat Co., a family business. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and all sports.

Duane is survived by his loving family, sons, Stephen and Joel; daughters, Shelley and Julie; grandchildren, Jennifer, Nathan, Margaux, Alexander, Sophia, Joshua and Mariah; and great-grandchildren, Isabella and Araceli.

A private ceremony will be held by his family. Goodbye father, grandpa, great-grandpa~we will miss you!



Our beloved, Flo I. Nimmo passed away on Friday, February 8, 2008. Flo was born on November 6, 1923 in Claremore, OK to Arthur and Lillian Olive (Radar) Stewart. She married the love of her life, Linley I. Nimmo on June 4, 1943 and to this union was born a beautiful baby girl, Carol.

Flo and Lin were residents of the Fountain Valley from 1967. They were proud members of the Fountain Kingdom Hall of Jehovahís Witnesses since 1961. Sadly, Lin preceded Flo in death. She is survived by their daughter, Carol Crist; one grandchild; two great-grandchildren and her brother, Raymond Stewart.

Memorial services were held on Sunday, February 10, 2008 at 2PM at the Kingdom Hall in Fountain. The family requests that memorial contributions be made to the local chapter of the American Heart Assocociation.

 

 


Helen C. Moudy, 90, of Security passed away on Thursday, February 7, 2008 at her home. Helen was born July 6, 1917 in Big Stone County, Minnesota to Hagbert and Clara (Peterson) Johnson.

She had lived in Security since 1977 and was an active member of Sons and Daughters of Norway. Mrs. Moudy was married on July 31, 1943 to Earl L. Moudy who preceded her in death. She is survived by numerous nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at 10AM at Dove-Witt Fountain Valley Chapel, 6630 s. Highway 85/87, Fountain. A private burial will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery in Denver, Colorado.

 


Joy Esther

July 26, 1933 - February 11, 2008

Joy Esther (Deverall) Griffith, 74, passed away at her home on February 11, 2008. She was born in Surrey, England on July 26, 1933 to parents, Gilbert and Esther Deverall. She was employed at JC Penney for the past 22 years. Her favorite pastimes were gardening, spending time with her family and friends, and traveling. She married Gerald Griffith on June 12, 1954.

Joy is survived by her husband; her children and their spouses, Michaele Detamore, Paul and DeDe Griffith, Mark Griffith, Linda and Scott Ponzio, Steve and Luz Griffith, Maureen and Rick Briscoe, and Yvonne and Eric Jensen; ten grandchildren, Craig, Doug, Dustin, Jacqueí, Angela, Andrew, Nick, Alec, Michaela and Connor; and one great-grandchild, Kayla.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 10AM at Holy Family Catholic Church, 331 Main Street. Burial will be held at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver on Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at 2:30PM at Staging Area B.


Kenneth A. Gurrera

December 28, 1962 ñ February 14, 2008

Kenneth A. Gurrera, 45, formerly of Fountain passed away on February 14, 2008. He was born December 28, 1962 in Weirton, WV to Joseph L. and Ann Gurrera. He was a carpenter by trade.

Kenney is survived by his daughter, Kelsey; his son, Sean Ferrell; his parents, Nick and Ann Dennis; sisters and brother-in-laws, Pam Larkin, Lynda and Ken Maddox, and Suzanne and Gary Carbon; nieces, Anna Marie, Laura Ashley, and Tara Nicole; nephew, Nicholas Joseph; and two significant women in his life, Shayeí Gurrera and Katie Tenuta. He was preceded in death by his father, Joseph L. Gurrera.

Visitation was held on Monday, February 18, 2008 from 10AM-2PM at Dove-Witt Family Mortuary, 6630 S W. Hwy 85/87, Fountain. Funeral services were held at Holy Family Catholic Church, 331 Main Street, Security. Inurnment will be held at St. Paulís Cemetery, in Weirton, WV at a later date.
