Remembering a true “pioneer/cowboy”

The Fountain Valley community is most fortunate to have been home to a true pioneer/rancher/cowboy and environmentally conscious/compassionate man- the late Glen Ermel who recently passed away after a courageous battle with cancer.
Glen’s entire life was spent dedicated to preserving the land, environment, raising cattle, a challenging, often hard lifestyle.

He was “green” years and years before anyone had even come up with the term “politically correct” or how it is now so “p.c.” to be green.

A steward of the land, he worked hard to raise crops and cattle all the while raising his own most precious “possessions” - his family. Living a  true “American dream,” Glen was a truly gentle man who led by example and his strength and compassion were inspiring.

He never needed to  raise his voice to get a point cross. A solid handshake was sufficient with Glen, who was most effective at communicating what needed to be said in a gentlemanly way.  It’s too bad that Glen’s vast  knowledge  and skills were put into a book or something. He was truly an expert on so many things that are vital to agriculture, ranching and all things “Fountain.”

I hope we will see others continue in Glen’s footsteps- working to preserve our history, our local “natural” spaces and wetlands, our agricultural countrysides and more. It’s the least we can do- to honor this incredible Fountain native’s legacy.
Thanks, Glen, for showing us the way...
